Bastard Man of Ruin
04:14
|
|||
She was married in the summer
In the merry month of June
Look away boys look away
And her husband was a bastard
And he broke her arm in two
Look away boys Look away
He drank lager and the morning
And spirits late at night
Look away boys look away
When his team were losing
He came looking for a fight
Look away boys look away
Chorus
And she killed him in the autumn
When the leaves were turning brown
And she cut him into pieces
And she put him in the ground
But the worms they wouldn’t touch him
The earth it spat him out
That Bastard man of ruin
Damned without a doubt
That Bastard Man of Ruin
He was damned without a doubt
Now he burns in hellfire
And begs for sweet release
Look away boys look away
He needs his bride’s forgiveness
To gain a moment's peace
Look away boys look away
But he beat her heart to iron
And her soul to freezing ice
Look away boys Look away
She was as heartless as he made her
The product of his vice
Look away boys look away
Chorus
He’ll be a long time roasting
she’ll be longer healing still
Look away boys look away
But one day there’ll be someone
The void inside to fill
Look away boys look away
Mercy isn’t earned its a
A freely given boon
Look away boys look away
So he waits upon her pleasure
To receive his final doom
Chorus

Poor Billy
04:04
|
|||
Billy he fancied a sailor
He loved the salt spray and the foam
He found a lively young jacktar
Invited him home to his room
But he went a courting disaster
For the sailor was mad as a snake
The devil rode hard on his elbow
And told him poor Billy to take
Chorus
So I’ll shed a tear for poor Billy
He wanted a body to hold
So I’ll shed a tear for poor Billy
His body is heavy and cold
The sailor had rope and sharp blade
He trussed the young lad like a hog
Went to work with the cutter
Then slipped off away in the fog
Leaving his victim to bleed out
And cry for his mother at last
Pulling with weakening fingers
At knots that so cruelly held fast
Chorus
He only wanted a comfort
Someone to hold him and say
That the world with all its injustice
For a moment would be kept away
The sailor was swallowed by darkness
And in madness he took his own life
Damned by his murderous impulse
He tore his own throat with the knife

Shadows Fill the Skies
04:21
|
|||
I knew a lad a bonny wee lad
With apples in his cheeks
And curling hair so wild and fair
And eyes of blue so deep and true
A hero’s strong physique
I followed him here I followed him there
I followed him to his house
I watched him go both to and fro
Work and play for a week and a day
As silent as a mouse
And then I crept inside his home
With a mask over my face
Under the moon at an hour opportune
A happy man with a foolproof plan
Under a cloud of grace
I cut his throat with my sacred blade
And daubed his blood on the walls
Cut him apart, tore out his heart
And placed his head at the foot of his bed
And sang the sacred calls
I offered him to the ancient gods
That lurk beyond the veil
It’s their delight to haunt the night
And feast on souls as told by scrolls
That prophecy entails
And when I’ve offered a dozen more
My masters will arise
13 dead will see them fed
They’ll take their place in outer space
And shadows fill the skies

Of all the tales was ever told,
I now will one impart,
That cannot fail to terror strike,
In every human heart,
The deeds of Mary Arnold, who
Does in a jail deplore
Oh such a dreadful tale as this,
Was never told before.
Chorus
This wretched woman's dreadful deed,
Does everyone afright,
With beetles placed in walnut shells,
She robbed her child of sight.
Now think you tender parents all,
What must this monster feel,
The heart within her breast must ten,
Times harder be than steel,
The dreadful crime she did commit,
Does all the world surprise,
Black beetles placed in walnut shells,
Bound round her infant's eyes.
The beetles in a walnut shell,
This monster she did place,
This dreadful deed, as we may read,
All history does disgrace,
The walnut shells and beetles with,
A bandage she bound tight,
Around her infant's tender eyes,
To take away its sight.
A lady saw this monster in,
The street while passing by,
And she was struck with terror for,
To hear the infant cry,
The infant's face she swore to see,
It filled her with surprise,
To see the fatal bandage tied,
Around the infant's eyes.
With speed she called an officer,
Oh shocking to relate,
Beheld the deed and took the wretch,
Before the magistrate,
He said that she must face a trial,
Which did the wretch displease,
And she is now transported ten,
Long years across the seas.
Is there another in the world,
Could plan such wicked deed?
No-one upon this Earth before,
Of such did ever see,
To take away her infant's sight,
'Tis horrible to tell,
To bind black beetles round its eyes,
Placed in walnut shells.
